About

Welcome to Fincham Press, based at the University of Roehampton in south-west London, part of a new wave of university presses in the UK.

Fincham Press is conceived, commissioned, edited, and published by a team based at the Department of English and Creative Writing. The department is a centre of excellence in all of its subject areas: Creative Writing, English Literature, Children’s Literature – and now, with the launch of a new MA that relates directly to the work of this Press, in the subject area of Publishing.

The writing programme is recognised by both students and peers as one of the best in the UK. This is down to the strong editorial relationship we establish with our students, and the variety of writing forms that we teach, which span poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, screenwriting, children’s literature, graphic narratives and computer games. Experienced teachers, who are also published writers themselves, work with students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, exploring creative work with a rigorous mix of writing theory and practice.

Since 2014 we have published five creative writing anthologies, a Journalism anthology, and a book on representations of the professor in children’s literature.

In May 2017 the press launched two open access peer-reviewed journals: the International Journal of James Bond Studies and RoundTable, run by the department’s research students, which gives a platform for early career research in their fields.

Our aim is to explore innovative approaches to publishing and dissemination of research, and to offer our students new channels for expression and learning.
